Ode to One Blue Tower

Project Description:

My visit to One World Trade Center was extremely moving and I wanted to capture it in a meaningful way. This project took a photograph taken by me and used several techniques to highlight the tower. First, I duplicated the photo and changed one into black and white. Using photo editor in the black and white photo, I used the marker tool to add pops of red in the trees. I also used a brush tool with a high transparency to illuminate where the sun was hitting the tower. Then, I duplicated the black and white and used the crop tool to include only the bottom and I used a white marker to erase some of the parts. In the original color photo, I used the crop tool to narrow the photo to the tower. I brought all three photos into the Microsoft program Pages and removed the background to the cropped tower photo and placed the color tower on top of the whole black and white, and overlayed the bottom to fit the picture. Finally, I exported the project back to a picture file.

Project Directions:

This was an original photograph taken by me during a summertime visit to New York City. Several techniques were used to highlight the One World Trade Center tower. You will notice first that the tower is in color, while the background of the photo is in black and white. Also, there are pops of red in the trees to add a patriotic feel. Toward the top of the tower, there is an illumination from the sun. I really wanted to accentuate this because it felt like the sun was touching the place where the plane struck the original tower. So, I used a soft brush with a high transparency to enhance this area of the photo. I also lightened the area where the sun was in the top left corner of the photo.
