Rises the Moon
Project Description:
I created this animation/animatic using Ibis Paint X and Capcut! The song is Rises the Moon by Liana Flores and the characters are Moomintroll and Snufkin from the Moomins, a Finnish children’s series by Tove Jansson. The Moomins is a very comforting series to me, and Moomintroll and Snufkin’s relationship is very important to me. They are best friends who are extremely close and do pretty much everything together until winter comes, when Snufkin leaves on his yearly winter trip, and Moomintroll hibernates in his house. But, when spring comes, Snufkin comes back with it, and Moomintroll wakes up on the first day of spring to greet him. They remind me a lot of me and my best friend, and, using the metaphor of the moon rising in the song, I tried to convey the joy of a steady and comforting friendship, a thing that you know will always be there eventually, even if you can’t always see the person in front of you. A person you can confide in and find peace in, even when the drag of daily life takes its toll. The rising of the moon symbolizes the coming together of these two people. I also tried to convey the cozy vibes of the series (in particular the 90s cartoon version) through the muted pastel color palette. I would hope anybody who watches this video would feel a sense of calm, and take a second to breathe.
